Porsche wants Hybrid Version of every Model, 918 Spyder to follow Panamera Hybrid

In the ever-growing world of automotive efficiency, more and more sports car manufacturers have decided to get in the game of providing more efficient speed. Now, Porsche has taken it one step further, committing to a hybrid version of each of its models in order to get its average CO2 emissions down to 216 g/km by 2015 (from the current 255 g/km). "In the future, we will have hybrid drive in every model line," Porsche's development chief Wolfgang Duerheimer, told Autonews Europe. After the hybrid Cayenne and the upcoming Panamera hybrid, Porsche wants to release the hybrid 918 Spyder as a halo car to garner attention and learn more about the new path the company is taking. To help bring down corporate CO2 output and improve fuel economy, Porsche also aims to cut weight by 10% on each model with every following generation (through the development of carbon fiber for body panels and the like), as well as possibly utilizing four-cylinder engines. "If the CO2 guidelines...

RUF's Porsche 911 Roadster is Less 'Ruf' and More 'Tuf'

In 1967, Porsche launched its first Targa variant of the 911. This incredible and oh-so-stylish vehicle had a removable fabric roof panel above the front seats and a convertible-like folding rear window. In a matter of seconds it could be transformed from a pseudo-hardtop into a convertible with built-in rollbar. In the 1980s, customers could option a non-collapsible glass rear window for that extra piece of mind. Nowadays, the Targa is simply a Porsche 911 with some chrome trim and a sliding glass roof. Bo-ring. Clearly someone at Ruf agrees with me, as they have launched a new model that emulates the 911 Targas of the late 1960s. Called the Ruf Roadster, it features two removable roof panels made of carbon fibre and a folding rear window. It even has the stainless steel-effect rollbar of the original Targa. My inner fanboy is very happy. Five-spoke 19 inch forged aluminium wheels complement the car nicely. The Roadster will be available with either a non-turbo 294 kw (400 hp) or a t...

There's some good news if you're a fan of Porsche and/or automotive design. Walter de' Silva, Volkswagen Group's design director, will very soon have another VW brand reporting to him: Porsche. Scroll on down for a gallery featuring some of his previous works including the Alfa Romeo 156, 147 and GTV, Seat Salsa and Tango concepts, Leon, Altea, and more recently, the Audi A5. As Porsche becomes more integrated with its new parent, Michael Mauer, the brand's design director, will work more and more with de' Silva in order to help evolve the brand. Of working with Stuttgart's sports car manufacturer, de' Silva says, "I really hope to be able to add something positive to Porsche's new models, which will remain coherent with the great tradition of Porsche." We should have a good idea of what he hopes to do with the brand when Porsche's new 'baby' SUV model, the Cajun, arrives in 2014. De Silva said that while th...
