GM's South Korean Plant First to Produce New Chevy Aveo

Image
General Motor's South Korean Daewoo unit announced today that it will handle initial production of the new Chevrolet Aveo at its local Bupyeong plant in Incheon. The new Aveo will make its debut under the Daewoo brandname in the South Korean market in the first half of 2011 before a global rollout as a Chevrolet. "GM Daewoo is proud to be the first member of the GM family to produce and sell GM's next-generation global small car," said GM Daewoo President and CEO Mike Arcamone. "With demand for small cars on the rise worldwide, this is great news not only for GM Daewoo and our suppliers, but for Korean consumers as well." The Detroit automaker has previously stated the North American market Aveo will be built at its Orion Assembly in Orion Township, Mich., in 2011, a move that is said to restore around 1,200 jobs to Southeast Michigan. The production version of the new Aveo hatchback was given its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show last week. In Europ...

The Aveo is finally here and in the metal, and Chevy says it's aimed at younger buyers interested in a hot-hatch "looking every bit as good as the Aveo RS show car concept ". Points for trying, guys, but not really... Set to hit Europe in the summer of 2011, the Aveo 5-door will be powered by a variety of small-displacement gasoline and diesel engines (ranging from 70 to 115 horsepower) and even be available with a 6-speed stick. For all the specs on available engines and the like, check out our previous post . The sea of black plastic has seeped out from the interior and found itself all over the exterior of the car, as evidenced by the front and rear light housings and former rear quarter window. Also, whatever was once attractive from the rear 3/4 view (like the C-pillar kink and rear end treatment) seems to have been watered down a notch. And if the hatchback doesn't do it for you, Chevrolet should be presenting a sedan version of the car either in LA in November ...

First Photos of 2011 Chevrolet Aveo Interior

When General Motors lifted the wraps off the production 2011 Chevrolet Aveo hatchback on September 8, it only gave us a couple of pictures of the subcompact's exterior. But today, we came across a promotional video (to be added soon) and took some snapshots of the cabin. Sans the more luxurious leather appointments and sporty decorative trim of the Aveo RS concept study shown in Detroit this past January, the interior design is virtually unchanged on the production model. Highlights include the motorcycle-inspired instrument binnacle which features an analogue tachometer combined with a digital speedo and warning lights, and the classic Chevrolet wrap-round fascia of the dashboard. General Motors claims that it has used "high quality materials" in the interior which also features multiple storage spaces in the center stack and an audio system with USB, aux-in and Bluetooth functionality. The new Aveo will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show later this month. ...
