Hell Yeah; Dodge Teases Viper V10-Powered Chrysler 300 SRT10 on Video

Image
Dodge has published a video of a current generation Chrysler 300 badged as the SRT10 and fitted with a Viper-sourced 8.4-liter V10 powerhouse on its official Youtube channel. The company did not provide any intel on the car, but it did ask the question, " What happens when you put a Viper engine into a Chrysler 300? ". Feel free to post your answers in the comments section below. A quick search on the net failed to return any results on the Chrysler SRT10, so this V10 powered project car could be anything from an older private build to a new tuning proposal for the upcoming 2010 SEMA Show in Las Vegas this November. We just don't know - yet. Those of you with a strong memory, will surely recall the Detroit firm's 2008 SEMA Show Dodge Challenger SRT10 Concept car powered by the Viper's 8.4-liter V10 engine churning out 600 wild ponies and 560 lb. ft. of torque. If you don't remember it, scroll down and refresh your memory with the promo video. Source: Dodge , V...

Disney's Magic Highway USA is a Future that Never was

Image
Ah, highway motoring in the 21st century: the epitome of fast, safe and comfortable transportation for the masses. Where there are rarely more than half a dozen cars on the road and the family relaxes with a board game while their car automatically whisks them to work or to the shops. The 21st century: where traffic accidents are dealt with by airborne units that are police, fire and ambulance all rolled into one and road works cause only minimal delays thanks to prefabricated components and enormous road laying machines. And what would 21st century motoring be without our cantilevered sky ways, non-stop freight ways and undersea transcontinental highways, all of which are as commonplace today as trains were seventy years ago? Don't worry; I haven't gone off my rocker. This is the 21st century motoring gospel according to "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color", a television program produced from 1954 to 1990 and hosted by Old Man Disney himself up until 1967. VIDEO: C&D Pits Lexus LFA Against Ferrari 599 HGTE

Image
In 1971, one of the greatest one-on-one boxing matches took place in New York's Madison Square Garden: the bout between Mohammed Ali and Joe Frazier. So big was this event, advertisers dubbed it, 'The Fight of the Century'. Now, two different contenders take to the ring (uh...tarmac). The reigning champion: the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano HGTE. The challenger: the Lexus LFA. Video after the jump. One is a purebred, Italian racehorse with decades of motor racing heritage under its belt. The other is the new kid on the block: the young hood with its 'doof doof' music and unshakable will to win. So maybe I went a bit too far with the boxing analogy... The real scoop here is U.S. magazine Car and Driver putting the V12-powered 599 GTB HGTE and V10-powered LFA through their paces on the narrow, sodden backroads of Wales. Technical editor Michael Austin is behind the wheel of the Ferrari while executive editor Mark Gillies is in the Lexus. Their goal: to find out which of the...

IDECORE's Alfa Romeo Monza V8 Concept [with Video]

Image
This is IDECORE's (an acronym for "ideas, concepts, relationships") Alfa Romeo Monza V8,a new digital concept in honor of the Italian firm's centennial celebration. IDECORE, which bills itself as "independent designers and modelers", sees this model as an Executive Sport 2+2 with a next-gen Multiair V8 driving the rear wheels. The car would measure 4.8 meters long, similar to BMW's current 6-Series. From the looks of it, this could also provide Alfa with a regular-production flagship coupe in place of its beautiful and very limited halo car, the 8C Competizione. While Alfa has been reinventing itself lately with attractive small cars targeting younger buyers, a slick full-size coupe could very well be in the pipeline, especially since Alfa is rumored to be using Chrysler's large RWD platform for its long-delayed 169 sedan. Since Alfa Romeo hopes to one day make a return to the US market as a BMW competitor, a car like this is something that can'...

Toyota Confirms New Prius Minivan Debut for 2011 Detroit Show in January, Releases New Teaser Video

Image
With a simple tweet on its Twitter page that said " Next member of the #Prius family (to be revealed at Detroit Auto Show) will be all-new model w/ more comfort, style and versatility ", Toyota announced that the world premier of its highly anticipated Prius Minivan will take place at the forthcoming Detroit motor show in the second week of January, 2011. The as-of-yet unnamed minivan will be the second Prius-badged hybrid in Toyota's range, while the company has already revealed plans to extend the Prius family with a third model that will be smaller than the current five-door liftback. Both the smaller and larger Prius-branded hybrid-electric vehicles are scheduled to go on sale in the States by 2013. The Japanese firm recently teased the Prius minivan with a billboard pictur e located in Malibu, California. Now, we also have a video from the making of the billboard that you can check out below. According to a Carscoop eye-witness that snagged a camouflaged prototype ...

2012 Lamborghini Jota / Murcielago: New Spy Photos and Video

Image
We've got another round of spy pictures as well a video of Lamborghini's upcoming Murcielago replacement. Sant'Agata's new hypercar, which has yet to be given an official name (although some sources suggest it will be called Jota), is planned to debut at next year's Geneva Salon. From what we can tell by looking at the scoop photos and videos, Lamborghini's design team will stick to the 'wedgy' styling language that has been a hallmark of the firm's supercars ever since the introduction of the Countach in the 1970s. The new hypercar will be the Italian company's first production model to make use of the lightweight carbon fiber materials showcased on the Paris Motor Show Sesto Elemento concept model. Sources claim the baddest Lambo in the range may be as much as 150kg or 330 pounds lighter than today's Murcielago. We're not sure how much higher Lamborghini can go, but the word on the streets is that the Italian firm's flagship supe...

VIDEO: Aston Martin Execs Try to Convince Everyone the Cygnet is not a Toyota...

Image
Now that the Aston Martin Cygnet has officially received the green light (previous post here ), the brand of James Bond has put together again CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez and design director Marek Reichman for the Cygnet PR video below. The 4-passenger Cygnet, based on Toyota's iQ city car, is meant to provide Aston Martin owners something more practical for daily use within cities and still offer said owners the level of exclusivity they desire. That means it can be ordered with all the same interior and exterior colors, leathers, and materials found on any other Aston. While based on a Toyota, the Cygnet will officially be manufactured as its own standalone model - a coach-built compact, if you will - in Warwickshire, England. An official announcement has not been made regarding the power train, but it will likely get the iQ's standard 3-cylinder (possibly with a sport intake/exhaust setup). Bumblebee Camaro Crashes into Real Cop Car During Filming of Transformers 3

Image
BUMBLEBEE is racing down a side street to catch up with the other AUTOBOTS, who have found another piece of the ALLSPARK. Suddenly, a DECEPTICON POLICE SUV appears and cuts BUMBLBEE off! Well, not really, but it sure looks like that in this video. According to The Washington Post , the story goes that a Metropolitan Police SUV was on its way to investigate a suspicious package in the D.C. area when it strayed onto the Transformers 3 set. Just at that moment, a yellow Chevrolet Camaro a.k.a. "Bumblebee" rounded a corner and slammed into the right side of the police vehicle in the sort of scene you previously would only have seen in a Michael Bay movie. District Police spokeswoman Tisha Gant told The New York Times that the officer driving the SUV was taken to a local hospital and that the driver of the Camaro was uninjured. The Camaro seems to be the worst off of the two, having sustained damage to its front end up to the wheel wells. All of us here at Carscoop are hoping an...

Google’s Latest Killer App is one Step Closer to the Driverless Car [with Video]

Image
It came from San Francisco Bay. A hybrid killing driving machine with a singular purpose: to destroy mankind to further the cause of safe motoring. A Toyota Prius infused with advanced technology that allows it to kill without remorse drive itself and created by the Devil himself Google! Pardoning that brief flight of fancy, here's the real scoop: Google is working on an automated / driverless car with the help of DARPA Challenge luminaries Chris Urmson and Anthony Levandowski. Mr. Urmson was the technical team leader on CMU's 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge winning entry, whilst Mr. Levandowski built the world's first autonomous motorcycle for the DARPA Grand Challenge as well as an automated pizza delivery vehicle. Though still in the experimental stages of development, Google's test vehicles have covered 140,000 miles (225,300 km). Their unpiloted yet still manned Priora (that's the plural of Prius, dontchaknow) have travelled from their Mountain View campus to the...

SPY VIDEO: Is this the New 2012 Honda Civic Sedan?

Image
What is claimed to be the new 2012 Honda Civic Sedan was caught almost naked with very few body parts masked, hot weather testing in the Dubai by Car Magazine Middle East. Having eliminated the possibility that this may be a local version of the Fit/Jazz-based City small sedan , the next step is to see if this is a brand new edition of the Civic saloon or a facelifted model. And here's where it gets confusing. Although at a first glance it appears that the car seen here is a 2012MY (or 2011MY) facelift with a Honda Insight-esque front and reworked rear end, a closer inspection at the video reveals a slightly different window line (see the rear quarter windows) and unique doors. That said, we're not entirely sure if it's a new model or a heavily redesigned version of the current Civic. The website also provides a glimpse of the interior which features a newly styled cockpit with an almost old-school-BMW-like driver orientated dashboard design. Check out the video below and ...

Halo Intersceptor Design Study is a Bugatti-like Flying / Swimming Car for Billionaires

Image
I wasn't aware of this, but apparently billionaires absolutely despise leaving their cars to board other modes of transportation. You can just imagine Donald Trump sighing heavily in the back of his Maybach, "Do I really have to open the door and climb up those five little steps to board my Gulfstream V?" No doubt feeling deeply for these disheartened millionaires, U.K. concept designer Philip Pauley has come up with the Halo Intersceptor [ sic ], a futuristic study for a car that can be transformed into a plane, a helicopter and even a boat. It's pure flight of fancy , of course, with a 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) time of just 2.3 seconds and a top speed of 311 mph (500 km/h). It features a Bugatti Veyron rear end and a front that looks like it was stolen from Aptera's three-wheel electric car. Oh, and that concept car essential: gullwing doors. The party piece though is the so-called Halo attachments which, when strapped on to the Intersceptor's body, allow ...
